  • Dr. Kevin Annett will screen and discuss the film, Unrepentent: Kevin Annett and Canada’s Genocide 7pm November 16, 2010 in Jamrich 103 on the campus of Northern Michigan University. For more information on this film see the films website www.hiddenfromhistory.org

Kevin Arnett is a non-native advocate for peoples of the First Nations in North America. The film, Unrepentent: Kevin Annett and Canada’s Genocide chronicles Annett’s years of personal sacrifice in his effort to make public documentation of an institutionalized cultural genocide of First Nations communities and people. The film presents how First Nations children of Canada were forcibly taken from their homes, families, and communities and placed in boarding schools. A most surprising aspect is that this continued up to as recently as the 1990’s. Annett has written two books on the subject of Boarding Schools and believes the information presented is important to be shared especially on college campuses where research can be done. He stresses the importance to educate so history of such atrocities will not be repeated.
